The Secret to the Perfect Roast: Carrie’s Yorkshire Puddings
Authenticity is at the heart of our Sunday Roast. Our Yorkshire puddings are crafted using the original recipe of Chef William Drabble’s grandmother, Carrie. Having served as a cook for Earl Fitzwilliam, Carrie brought the true spirit of Yorkshire to the table, a tradition we are proud to continue today.

History of Sunday Roast
The British Sunday roast is a centuries-old ritual shaped by royal tradition, religious practice, and the Industrial Revolution. Its roots trace back to mediaeval communal feasts and King Henry VII’s "Beefeaters", whose Sunday beef consumption became a national hallmark.
Historically, families without home ovens would drop meat at local bakeries to slow-roast in cooling ovens during church services, making the meal a practical post-worship reward. Iconic trimmings like Yorkshire puddings were originally served as cheap appetisers to fill diners before the expensive meat, while gravy ensured no flavourful juices were wasted. Today, the tradition remains a cornerstone of British culture, evolving to include modern pub settings and vegetarian alternatives.
